sabring

Cutting with blade

Sabring is the act of striking or cutting with a sabre, the curved cavalry sword.

The term appears most often in historical military contexts describing mounted combat or, more brutally, the dispersal of crowds by soldiers on horseback.

In modern usage, sabring also refers to the theatrical technique of opening a champagne bottle by sliding a sabre along the neck to cleanly sever the top: We'll be sabring the champagne at midnight.
