rock hounding
Amateur geology hobby
Rock hounding is the hobby of searching for and collecting rocks, minerals, gems, and fossils in the wild.
Enthusiasts explore quarries, riverbeds, beaches, and desert areas looking for specimens worth keeping.
The activity combines outdoor recreation with amateur geology: We spent the weekend rock hounding in the Arizona desert.
