ride simulator
Stationary thrill device
A ride simulator is a mechanical attraction that creates the sensation of movement—flight, racing, space travel—while remaining stationary or moving only slightly.
Theme parks use ride simulators to combine physical motion with synchronized video, making riders feel they're swooping through canyons or dodging asteroids.
The term also applies to home setups and arcade machines: The flight simulator at the museum lets you pilot a 747.
