resurveying

Measuring land anew

Resurveying is surveying again—remeasuring land boundaries, reassessing conditions, or reexamining data that was surveyed before.

The prefix signals repetition, usually because original surveys were incomplete, disputed, or outdated: The county is resurveying property lines after the flood changed the riverbank.

The term applies to both physical land measurement and figurative reassessment of any previously studied territory.
