restored films
Rescued old movies
Restored films are movies that have been repaired, cleaned, or digitally reconstructed to approximate their original appearance.
Film degrades over time—colors fade, frames are lost, soundtracks deteriorate.
Restoration involves repairing physical damage, correcting color, and sometimes reconstructing missing footage from alternate sources: The restored version of Metropolis includes scenes lost for decades.
Major studios and archives undertake restorations of classic and historically significant films.
