repartitioning

Splitting up anew

Repartitioning is dividing something again into different parts or sections.

Most commonly used in computing, where repartitioning a hard drive means reorganizing how storage space is allocated: I had to back up everything before repartitioning the disk.

The term also applies to political or territorial divisions: repartitioning the disputed region.
