religious canon
Official holy writings
Religious canon refers to the authoritative collection of texts, laws, or principles accepted as genuine and binding within a faith tradition.
The biblical canon comprises the books officially recognized as scripture—differing slightly among Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox traditions.
Canon also encompasses official church rules and doctrines: canon law governs Catholic clergy conduct.
By extension, any body of works considered essential to a tradition or field may be called its canon.
