rekey

Reset lock tumblers

To rekey is to change the internal mechanism of a lock so it works with a different key, without replacing the lock itself.

Landlords often rekey apartments between tenants.

The term also applies to data entry—rekeying information means typing it again, usually from one system into another: We had to rekey all the records after the migration.
