reexploration

Revisiting previous territory

Reexploration is the act of exploring something again—revisiting a place, topic, or idea previously examined.

The term appears often in medical contexts, where a reexploration is a second surgery to investigate a site that was previously operated on: The patient required reexploration due to post-operative bleeding.

More broadly, it describes any return to familiar territory with fresh attention: His later novels represent a reexploration of his childhood themes.
