reencodes

Translates data anew

Reencodes means to encode again—to convert data, media, or information into a different format or compression a second time.

Most commonly used for digital video or audio files: I reencoded the video at a lower bitrate to save space.

Reencoding often involves some quality loss, since compressed data is being processed again rather than working from the original source.
