reduction ratio
Input-output size comparison
Reduction ratio is the relationship between input and output in a mechanical system, typically gears or transmissions.
A 4:1 reduction ratio means the input shaft rotates four times for every single rotation of the output—trading speed for increased torque.
The term applies wherever one quantity is systematically decreased relative to another: The document scanner's reduction ratio shrinks pages to fit the screen.
