redtop
Hay field plant
Redtop is a type of grass with reddish flower clusters, widely grown in North America for pasture, lawns, and erosion control.
It thrives in poor soils where other grasses struggle.
In British slang, a redtop is a tabloid newspaper, so called because many such publications use red mastheads; the term often carries connotations of sensationalism.
The redtops had a field day with the scandal.
