reclining nude
Prone artistic subject
A reclining nude is a work of art—typically a painting or sculpture—depicting a naked human figure lying down.
The subject is almost always female, posed languidly on a bed or couch.
The tradition runs from Renaissance Venuses through Manet's *Olympia* to Modigliani.
The museum's collection includes several reclining nudes from the 19th century.
