rattle can
Shaking spray can
A rattle can is a spray paint can—named for the sound made by the mixing ball inside when shaken.
The term is common among graffiti artists, auto body workers, and DIY painters: I touched up the rust spots with a rattle can.
Rattle-can as a verb means to apply spray paint: He rattle-canned the whole bumper.
