rabies shots

Post-bite prevention series

Rabies shots are a series of injections given after potential exposure to the rabies virus, typically following an animal bite.

The treatment, called post-exposure prophylaxis, prevents the almost invariably fatal disease from developing: She went to the ER for rabies shots after being bitten by a stray dog.

Pre-exposure vaccination exists for veterinarians and others at high risk.
