quest giver
Adventure assignment origin
A quest giver is a character in a video game who assigns missions or tasks to the player—the NPC with an exclamation mark over their head, offering objectives in exchange for rewards.
The term extends beyond gaming to anyone who hands out assignments or sets you on a path: My boss is basically a quest giver with a coffee addiction.
