A puzzle mat is a padded surface for assembling jigsaw puzzles, typically made of felt or foam that grips pieces in place.
Most roll up for storage, allowing work-in-progress puzzles to be moved without disturbing the pieces: I keep my puzzle mat under the couch between sessions.
Separately, puzzle mats are interlocking foam floor tiles, often used in playrooms or gyms—the assembly being the puzzle.
