edge pieces
Straight-sided jigsaw parts
Edge pieces are the sections of a jigsaw puzzle with one straight side, forming the border when assembled.
Puzzlers typically sort and connect edge pieces first to establish the frame before filling in the interior.
The term extends to any components that form the boundary of a larger whole.
