puff-puff

West African doughnut

Puff-puff is a West African deep-fried dough ball, similar to a doughnut or beignet.

The sweet, slightly yeasty snack is popular street food in Nigeria and Ghana: We grabbed some puff-puff from the vendor outside.

In British children's speech, puff-puff is also a steam train, imitating the sound of the engine.
