pseudoword

Pronounceable meaningless string

A pseudoword is a string of letters that follows the spelling and pronunciation patterns of a language but has no meaning: blicket, framble, wug.

Researchers use pseudowords to test reading skills and language processing—if you can pronounce a nonsense word correctly, you've internalized the rules of English phonics rather than just memorizing vocabulary.
