pseudopregnancy

False pregnancy condition

Pseudopregnancy is a condition in which a female mammal displays signs of pregnancy—swollen abdomen, mammary development, nesting behavior—without actually being pregnant.

Common in dogs and other animals, it results from hormonal changes that mimic gestation.

In humans, the equivalent condition is usually called false pregnancy or phantom pregnancy: The vet said her pseudopregnancy would resolve on its own.
