take for granted
Expect without appreciation
To take something for granted is to assume it without question or to fail to appreciate it properly.
The first sense applies to assumptions: We take for granted that the sun will rise tomorrow.
The second involves undervaluing what you have: Don't take your health for granted.
Often the two senses blur—we stop appreciating things precisely because we assume they'll always be there.
