foregone
Never in doubt
Foregone is the past participle of forego, meaning to go before or precede, though this sense is now rare.
The word survives almost exclusively in the phrase foregone conclusion, which describes an outcome that is inevitable or decided in advance.
The election was a foregone conclusion once the opposition withdrew.
Less commonly, foregone describes something that has already happened or passed: foregone opportunities.
