preflop
Initial betting round
Preflop refers to the betting round in poker before any community cards are dealt face-up.
In Texas Hold'em, this is when players have only their two hole cards and must decide whether to fold, call, or raise based on that limited information: His preflop strategy was too aggressive.
The term distinguishes this phase from the flop, turn, and river.
