precleaning

First cleaning pass

Precleaning is cleaning done before another process—typically before a more thorough cleaning or before some other procedure that requires a clean surface.

Equipment may undergo precleaning before sterilization; carpets may get precleaning before deep extraction.

The precleaning removed the worst of the grease before we applied the solvent.
