potman

Collects empty glasses

A potman is a worker in a British pub who collects empty glasses and bottles, washes them, and generally assists the bartender.

The term is old-fashioned and largely replaced by more generic job titles like barback or glass collector.

Historically, potmen also delivered beer and maintained the cellar.

The potman made rounds through the crowded pub, stacking empties on his tray.
