port-wine stains
Red facial birthmarks
Port-wine stains are birthmarks caused by abnormal blood vessel development, appearing as flat, pink to dark red patches on the skin.
Named for their resemblance to the color of port wine, they're present at birth and typically permanent, most often appearing on the face or neck.
Unlike some birthmarks, they don't fade with age and may darken over time.
