popular revolt
Citizens overthrow authority
A popular revolt is an uprising by ordinary people against those in power, typically a government or ruling authority.
Unlike a military coup led by elites, a popular revolt draws its force from widespread participation by common citizens who share grievances about oppression, economic hardship, or political exclusion.
The popular revolt toppled the regime within weeks.
Such uprisings may be spontaneous or organized, peaceful or violent, and range from localized protests to full-scale revolutions.
