pond skater
Surface tension insect
A pond skater is a long-legged insect that walks on the surface of still water, supported by surface tension.
The legs spread wide, distributing weight so the insect dimples but doesn't break through the water film.
Also called water strider or water skipper.
Pond skaters darted across the creek.
