Fitting connection spirals
Pipe thread is the helical ridge cut into pipe ends and fittings that allows them to screw together and form a seal.
Unlike machine threads designed for bolts, pipe threads are often tapered so the connection tightens progressively and seals against leaks: Check that the pipe thread matches before applying tape.
Plumbers wrap pipe threads with Teflon tape or pipe dope to ensure watertight joints.
