pingback
Incoming link notification
A pingback is an automated notification sent between websites when one blog or webpage links to another.
The system alerts the linked site that someone has referenced its content, allowing bloggers to track who's discussing their posts.
Pingbacks appear as a form of comment or trackback, creating a network of cross-references: I got a pingback from a tech blog that quoted my article.
