trackback
Incoming link alert
A trackback is a notification system between blogs that alerts a site when another blog has linked to it.
When you write a post referencing someone else's article, your blogging software can send a trackback to theirs, creating a visible record of the conversation across sites.
The system was designed to foster interconnected discussion but became largely obsolete due to spam abuse.
Pingbacks serve a similar function with automatic verification.
