pianolas
Mechanical music makers
Pianolas is the plural of pianola, a type of player piano that automatically plays music using a perforated paper roll.
The rolls encode musical notes, and the mechanism reads them to strike the keys without a human performer.
The term is sometimes used generically for any self-playing piano: The old pianolas in the museum still work.
