phone cord

Handset's coiled connection

A phone cord is the coiled or straight cable connecting a telephone handset to its base, or connecting the base to a wall jack.

The classic coiled cord stretches to allow movement while talking: She paced the kitchen, twisting the phone cord around her finger.

Largely obsolete with cordless and mobile phones, though still found in offices and older homes.
