permuting

Reordering the elements

Permuting is the act of rearranging elements into a different order or sequence.

The term appears most often in mathematics and computing, where permuting a set means generating its possible arrangements: The algorithm works by permuting the input array.

More broadly, to permute is to change the order of anything: permuting the letters of a word, permuting the lineup.
