period setting
Era-specific environment
A period setting is a fictional backdrop placed in a specific historical era rather than the present day.
The term appears most often in discussions of film, television, and literature: The show's period setting required elaborate costumes and props.
A period piece or period drama unfolds in such a setting, typically evoking the manners, aesthetics, and social conditions of its chosen time.
