perching birds

Songbirds and relatives

Perching birds are the largest order of birds, comprising more than half of all bird species—sparrows, finches, crows, robins, warblers, and thousands more.

The name comes from their feet, which have three toes pointing forward and one back, adapted for gripping branches.

Most are songbirds, though the technical classification includes some that don't sing.
