Patty-cake is a clapping game played between two people, typically an adult and young child, involving rhythmic hand motions while reciting a nursery rhyme: Patty-cake, patty-cake, baker's man.
The term can describe any simple cooperative activity or, dismissively, something childishly easy or ineffectual: They're just playing patty-cake instead of addressing real problems.
