parcelling

Splitting into shares

Parcelling is the act of dividing something into portions or wrapping it for delivery.

Land gets parcelled into lots, responsibilities get parcelled out among team members, and packages get parcelled up for shipping.

In nautical use, parcelling means wrapping rope with strips of tarred canvas to protect against moisture.

The spelling with double L is British; American English uses *parceling*.
