paddle boats

Foot-powered watercraft

Paddle boats are small watercraft propelled by paddle wheels that riders power by pedaling, like a bicycle.

Common at parks and resorts for leisurely recreation on lakes and ponds: We rented paddle boats and spent the afternoon on the lake.

Also called pedal boats.

The term sometimes refers to larger paddle-wheel steamboats, though paddleboat (one word) is more common for those vessels.
