oversew
Stitch along edges
To oversew is to sew over the edges of fabric with stitches that wrap around the raw edge, preventing fraying and joining pieces together.
The technique creates a visible ridge of thread along the seam: She oversewed the edges of the quilt squares before assembling them.
In bookbinding, oversewing attaches pages by stitching through their inner margins.
