overprune
Trim too much
To overprune is to cut back a plant too aggressively, removing so much growth that you harm its health or appearance: I overpruned the roses and they barely bloomed that year.
The term extends to any excessive trimming or editing: The editor overpruned the manuscript until it lost its voice.
