ostrich eggs
Largest bird's offspring
Ostrich eggs are the eggs laid by ostriches, the largest of any living bird.
A single egg weighs about three pounds and has a shell thick enough to support a person's weight.
They're edible—one egg equals roughly two dozen chicken eggs—and the shells are sometimes carved or painted as decorative objects: We had scrambled ostrich egg at the safari lodge.
