oral polio vaccine
Swallowed immunization drops
Oral polio vaccine is a vaccine against poliomyelitis administered by mouth rather than injection.
It contains weakened live virus and was the dominant form of polio vaccination through much of the 20th century.
In rare cases the weakened virus can mutate and cause the disease it prevents, so many countries have switched to injectable inactivated vaccines: The oral polio vaccine is still used in mass immunization campaigns.
