open turn
Swimming wall technique
An open turn is a swimming technique where the swimmer touches the wall and rotates while facing the water's surface, used primarily in breaststroke and butterfly.
Unlike a flip turn, the swimmer's head stays above water during the reversal: She executed a quick open turn and pushed off the wall.
The term distinguishes this method from the faster but more technically demanding tumble turn used in freestyle and backstroke.
