oldstyle
From earlier times
Oldstyle refers to a category of typefaces with characteristics from early printing: moderate contrast between thick and thin strokes, angled serifs, and diagonal stress on curved letters.
Garamond and Caslon are classic examples.
The term also describes anything deliberately echoing an earlier era's design or methods: oldstyle baseball uniforms, oldstyle brewing techniques.
