Oddsmakers are people who set betting lines and point spreads for sporting events and other contests.
They work for casinos, sportsbooks, and gambling operations, calculating probabilities and adjusting odds to balance action on both sides of a wager: Oddsmakers have the Lakers favored by six points.
The term extends to anyone who publicly predicts outcomes: Political oddsmakers give the incumbent a slight edge.
