nut job
Total loose cannon
A nut job is a crazy or mentally unstable person.
The term is dismissive and often insulting, suggesting someone's behavior or beliefs are irrational: My neighbor is a complete nut job—he thinks the government is reading his thoughts.
Sometimes used affectionately for harmless eccentrics: She's a lovable nut job.
