nontaster
Cannot detect bitterness
A nontaster is someone who cannot taste certain bitter compounds, particularly phenylthiocarbamide (PTC), due to genetic variation.
The term comes from genetics research distinguishing people by their ability to detect specific chemicals.
About a quarter of humans are nontasters, unable to perceive bitterness that others find intense.
