never-never

Idealized fictional place

Never-never refers to something imaginary, ideal, or impossibly remote from reality.

Never-never land is a fantasy realm where normal rules don't apply—from the setting in Peter Pan where children never grow up.

In British and Australian slang, the never-never is a hire-purchase or installment plan: buying furniture on the never-never.

In Australia, the never-never also means the remote outback—land so distant it might as well not exist.
